When Christian Dior launched his first perfume in 1947, he wanted a scent “that smells like love.” Miss Dior became a symbol of post-war femininity, tender yet composed, joyful but not frivolous. Seventy-eight years later, Dior’s perfume creative director Francis Kurkdjian has reimagined that ideal for a new generation with Miss Dior Essence.
A Heritage of Emotion
The original Miss Dior, created by Jean Carles and Paul Vacher, was named after Dior’s sister Catherine, a Resistance hero whose courage shaped his understanding of grace. Over time, the Miss Dior line has been reinterpreted many times, but it has always represented optimism wrapped in elegance.

Kurkdjian’s new version does not try to outshine that legacy. Instead, it feels like a quiet continuation, a scent that honors its past while standing firmly in the present.
The Composition
Miss Dior Essence, (1.7 oz. $164 | 2.7 oz. $198) opens with a jammy sweetness, like blackberry preserves brightened by a touch of elderflower. The first spray feels plush and luminous, a burst of juicy fruit that quickly softens into a more textured floral heart.

At its center lies jasmine sambac, polished and radiant rather than heady or powdery. It is joined by hints of rose and peony that lend lift without taking away its depth. As it dries down, oakwood and white musk bring calm, the moment when sweetness settles into confidence.
The result is a perfume that is floral, fruity, and softly woody, refined enough to wear daily yet with enough presence to linger through an evening.
The Feeling It Leaves
Miss Dior Essence does not smell young or candy-sweet. It is tender but self-possessed, a grown-up evolution of the playful Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet. It is the scent of someone who still loves romance but now sets the tone herself.

You notice it first for its bright, fruity opening, then for the way it relaxes beautifully, wrapping the skin in a mellow, slightly musky aura that feels both modern and familiar. The projection is graceful, and the longevity quietly impressive.
Why It Works
Kurkdjian’s touch shows in how the fragrance feels precise and balanced. The jammy blackberry could have leaned into gourmand territory, but the jasmine and woods keep it elegant. It is a polished kind of sweetness, more silk than sugar.

If the original Miss Dior was a declaration of love, Miss Dior Essence is what happens after love matures. It remains warm and full of joy, yet grounded. It is the perfume equivalent of a smile that means something.
