Inside Maison Spoturno: A Conversation with Véronique Spoturno and Christopher Sheldrake

In Paris, certain addresses still carry the feeling of discovery. Galerie Vivienne, with its mosaic floors, filtered light, and quiet sense of old-world elegance, remains one of them. It was there, inside the newly opened Maison Spoturno boutique, that I met Véronique Spoturno and Christopher Sheldrake for a conversation about heritage, authorship, and what it means to build a fragrance house today.

Maison Spoturno arrives with a surname that already carries weight in perfumery. Véronique Spoturno is the great-granddaughter of François Spoturno, the Corsican-born visionary who helped transform perfume into a modern luxury industry. Yet this house does not feel trapped by lineage. Instead, it uses history as a foundation while looking forward with clarity and restraint.

Standing beside her was Christopher Sheldrake, one of the most respected perfumers of the modern era. His body of work spans some of the most admired fragrances in contemporary perfumery, marked by intelligence, structure, and a rare ability to balance drama with precision. To meet him in person, in this intimate setting, felt like one of those distinctly Paris moments that still surprise you.

We walked through the collection together, bottle by bottle, discussing how the house is being shaped. Rather than chasing spectacle, Maison Spoturno appears focused on polish, proportion, and atmosphere. The fragrances are designed to feel considered rather than loud, elegant rather than insistent.

Five elegant perfume bottles in varying colors, arranged in a row with a dark background, each labeled with unique names and branding.

That measured approach feels increasingly relevant. In a market crowded with launches engineered for instant reaction, there is something refreshing about a house willing to move more deliberately. Maison Spoturno seems less interested in noise and more interested in permanence.

Our conversation also turned to what lies ahead. New developments are in motion, future releases are being considered, and the ambition for the house extends beyond a single opening. There is a sense of long-term thinking here, not simply a brand entering the market, but one laying foundations carefully.

The boutique itself reinforces that intention. Set within Galerie Vivienne, it places Maison Spoturno in dialogue with one of Paris’s most refined passages, where craftsmanship and commerce have coexisted for generations. It is an apt home for a house balancing legacy and reinvention.

What stayed with me most was not nostalgia, but seriousness of purpose. Véronique Spoturno is not replaying family history. She is building a modern maison under her own name. And with Christopher Sheldrake involved, the creative standard is immediately clear.
