I had been determined to skip designer perfumes this year. That resolve lasted until Lancôme’s Vanille Nude appeared. Then Valentino’s Born in Roma Rendez-Vous Ivory Eau de Parfum began to dominate my feed. Sephora’s “sold out” banner, Valentino’s site showing “unavailable,” and TikToks of people proudly holding bottles in-store. By the time I saw it in person, the purchase was inevitable.

This fragrance is a floral ambery gourmand built on accords of vanilla, white floral, powder, sweet, citrus, and musk. The official note pyramid is straightforward but effective:
Top: Green mandarin super essence, orange blossom accord
Heart: Marshmallow accord
Base: Madagascar vanilla, musk
The opening feels bright and sunlit, with green mandarin adding a gentle citrus sparkle to the orange blossom. The marshmallow accord arrives quickly, airy and creamy, softening the florals and adding a delicate sweetness. The drydown is smooth and warm with Madagascar vanilla and musk, a combination that clings to fabric and leaves a subtle trail for hours. On skin, it feels like wrapping yourself in freshly laundered cashmere.
Valentino fragrances are produced under L’Oréal’s license, often in partnership with major houses like Givaudan. They are designed for wide appeal, not niche exclusivity, and Rendez-Vous Ivory follows that blueprint exactly. It is also another flanker in the Born in Roma line, which has seen rapid expansion in recent years. Multiple launches within the same year have not caused fatigue among buyers. If anything, the repeated sell-outs and constant online chatter suggest Valentino understands how to keep the line feeling fresh enough to pull people back.

Consumer feedback so far reflects the mass appeal the brand was aiming for. Many describe it as soft, feminine, and cozy, with a sweetness that is noticeable but not overpowering. Some note that it layers beautifully with vanilla lotions and oils, creating an even richer experience. A few have mentioned that while it is not a groundbreaking scent, it is a compliment magnet and an easy reach for daily wear.
The timing is strategic. This fall is heavy with gourmand releases: Lancôme’s Vanille Nude, Manos Gerakinis’s gorgeous upcoming almond and sugary creation, Gallivant’s Gulf Collection rich with vanilla, sugar, and spice, and Commodity’s Milk Orchid with Perfumerism bringing a milky floral-gourmand twist. There is also cultural speculation that the rise in sweet, edible perfumes may be connected to the growing use of GLP-1 medications like Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro. Some users report stronger attraction to perfume, especially gourmand scents, as their appetite for food changes. Whether seasonal or cultural, the appetite for vanilla, sugar, and spice is at a peak.
Rendez-Vous Ivory will not surprise anyone who has followed the Born in Roma line, but it is a well-crafted, easy-to-wear gourmand-floral that fits the current mood perfectly. If you have tried it, I would love to know how it wore on you and whether it tempted you the way it tempted me.
